About this Event

The Charles Sturt Innovation Hub Industry Spotlight Evening is an intimate session with local and global success stories, as they share their journey - and discuss how they have used the power of brand story to set themselves apart from the crowd.

You will have the opportunity to ask questions and learn from their incredible stories.

It will be a panel event, featuring Chef2Farmer, Budgy Smuggler and The Other Chef.

Chef2Farmer

Lisa and Todd Richardson's business journey has been extremely successful - but it hasn't come without it's challenges!

The couple opened their cafe Lv's On Clarence, in 2012, as it had always been a dream to open a restaurant, due to Todd's passion for delicious food.

But the cafe provided so much more than great dining - it provided a true experience.

Their love of food only grew as they worked all around Australia in many different restaurants. They eventually bought the farm to grow & improve LV's - and continue their paddock to plate experience, while growing their own food. This lead to their interest being shifted towards the growing process - and regenerating the land.

After making the difficult decision to sell LV's to find better work/life balance, they have been able to further develop their second business, Chef2Farmer.

Hear from Lisa and Todd about all the up's and downs of owning two businesses - as they share the tricks and tools they have used along the way.

Budgy Smuggler

Budgy Smuggler started as a bit of a laugh in a backyard in Australia, when some mates decided to write ‘Budgy Smuggler’ on the back of their swimmers.

Current owner Adam Linforth purchased the speedo-style swimwear business in 2008 - when board shorts were at the peak of their popularity - and for a while he was flying solo. He took Brenden Hartmann on as a casual in 2013 and they became a two man team. Fast forward to 2021, Brenden is the General Manager and they've got 15 full time staff, including four in their UK based operation.

Join Brenden as he shares how Budgy Smuggler have (and continue to) use the power of brand story to engage with their audience and expand in the competitive retail space.

The Other Chef

Going through a rebrand, or thinking of shifting your brand focus?

Join Monica Robinson and Dr Willhemina Wahlin (former Lecturer in Design Charles Sturt University, Director of Braenchild Media and Creative Director of PROOF: Media for Social Justice) as they take us through the process of rebranding The Other Chef using Design Thinking.

The Other Chef specialises in producing award winning jams, relishes, sauces, pickles and other essential condiments. They source locally grown ingredients from farms in the hinterlands of Port Macquarie. All products are 100% natural and vegan friendly.

They also offer a Contract Manufacturing service for businesses looking to develop and/or manufacture a premium, bespoke product – either using their own recipe or one that The Other Chef develops for them.

The Other Chef is an excellent example of how Design Thinking principles can be used to create a framework for business innovation.
